    Adam Johnson Neck Injury – Former NHL athlete Adam Johnson, 29, dies after getting cut in the neck by a skate during U.K. hockey game

    Adam Johnson was Kicked by Matt Petgrave in a fatal collision during the game and video was shared on Twitter, viewed by millions of people. Most of them say Matt Petgrave should be charged for Adam Johnson’s death.

    Hockey player Adam Johnson, a Minnesota native who had brief stints with the NHL’s Pittsburgh Penguins, died after a “freak accident” during a game in the United Kingdom over the weekend, his team said.

    Johnson was playing for the Nottingham Panthers, which is in the Elite Ice Hockey League, against the Sheffield Steelers on Saturday night at Utilita Arena Sheffield when his neck was cut by a skate blade, the Associated Press reported. 

    The Panthers tweeted Saturday that the Challenge Cup game was “stopped” for a “bad injury” and players returned to the locker rooms. Fans were later asked to leave the building “due to a major medical emergency.”

    The Panthers said in a statement that Johnson “has tragically passed away following a freak accident at the game in Sheffield last night.”

    “Adam, our number 47, was not only an outstanding ice hockey player, but also a great teammate and an incredible person with his whole life ahead of him. The Club will dearly miss him and will never ever forget him,” the club wrote.  

    “The Panthers would like to send our thoughts and condolences to Adam’s family, his partner, and all his friends at this extremely difficult time,” the statement continued. “Everyone at the club including players, staff, management, and ownership are heartbroken at the news of Adam’s passing.”

    The team didn’t share details about what happened to Johnson. It said, “The Panthers would like to thank everyone who rushed to support Adam last night in the most testing of circumstances.”

    Johnson played in the NHL with the Pittsburgh Penguins as a forward from 2018 to 2020.

    The Penguins said in a statement: “The Pittsburgh Penguins join the entire hockey world in mourning the loss of Adam Johnson, whose life tragically ended far too soon.”

    “We offer our deepest condolences to Adam’s family and friends, as well as all of Adam’s past and present teammates and coaches. Adam will always be a part of the Penguins family. It was our honor to watch him fulfill his dream of playing in the National Hockey League,” the statement added.

    Johnson played college hockey at the University of Minnesota Duluth, where his coach Scott Sandelin remembered him as a popular teammate. 

     “The guys loved him. They respected him,” the coach told reporters on Monday. “He was fun to be around, sometimes life of the party.”

    The Elite Ice Hockey League said all games scheduled to take place Sunday will be postponed.

    The Panthers were playing a Challenge Cup game against the Sheffield Steelers in Sheffield on October 28, 2023, when the fatal injury happened, according to the Associated Press.

    Police are investigating the death of hockey player Adam Johnson after he got slashed in the neck by opposing team member Matt Petgrave’s skate.

    Online social media users are split on whether the kick was intentional or an accident.

    It is currently not completely clear if police are specifically investigating Petgrave’s involvement, but they stated it is “normal procedure” and are investigating the “circumstances surrounding the incident.”

    “Our officers remain at the scene carrying out inquiries. Our investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident remain ongoing,” the South Yorkshire Police said.

    “We would encourage the public to avoid speculation regarding the incident while we continue our inquiries.”
