In the clip, dated October 1947, Gandhi says: “If the people of Kashmir want to go to Pakistan, then there is no power in the world that can prevent them from reaching Pakistan. But if the people of Kashmir, despite being a Muslim majority, want to join the Union (of India), so no one can stop them. But the people of Kashmir should not be coerced by the Union or Pakistan.”

A minister in the Punjab provincial government slapped India’s force-occupation of Jammu and Kashmir by the Audio clip of Mahatma Gandhi. Fayyazul Hassan Chohan, a member of Imran Khan’s PTI party, is the Minister of Information for the government of Punjab.

Fayyazul Hassan Chohan tweeted: “These are the views of Mahatma Gandhi, the founder of India, regarding Kashmiri Muslims and secularism.” He tagged Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Uttar Pradesh chief minister Yogi Adityanath, adding that Muslims are being persecuted in India.
