Lufan was born in the central city of Givat Shmuel and grew up in the northern Israelite kibbutz of Ginosar. He was the head coach of the Israeli national kayak team and a coach for Israel’s Paralympic squad.

“Our dear Barak, the grandson of Kibbutz Ginosar’s founders, a wonderful husband and father, an athlete with every fibre of his being, a member of the Olympic kayaking team staff, and an educator of the field’s next generation, has left us prematurely,” his family said in a statement.

Following the attack, Lufan was sent to the hospital in critical condition. The hospital stated he was in a “life-threatening” condition on Friday morning.

The hospital stated in a statement on Friday that “Barak was seriously wounded in the homicidal attack last night and was proclaimed dead despite the physicians’ attempts.”

His funeral was slated to take place in his hometown at an undisclosed date and time.

Tomer Morad and Eytam Magini, both 27 and originally from Kfar Saba, were the other two victims of the terrorist gun incident in Tel Aviv on Friday.
