What is Chandrayaan 2 and its mission on moon?

Chandrayaan 2 is India’s most challenging mission so far. A highly complex undertaking. The space craft should reach on its destination in the second week of August. When it enters in an elliptical orbit of the moon. Then it will approach to the Lunar Surface. When the landing Robot Vikram separates from the craft, the most exciting phase begins. “India’s first soft landing on the moon”.

The selected landing site is about 600 kilometres from the Lunar South pole ” A region of features Craters on the dark side of Moon”. This is the area which is of most interest for the scientists because of water amd ice presence. Given the high ploto, the Robot should touch down gentally amid ancient rocks. After landing, Vikram ( the Robot) will open its doors and release India’s first Lunar Rover onto the surface of the Moon. Small as a briefcase, it can travel upto 500 meters. With its on-board instruments, the rover will measure water bearing minerals in the Lunar rock. As well as the concentration of the elements such as aluminium, silicon, and Titanium. Meanwhile the landing robot will record Moon Quakes and explore so called Lunar Plasma ( A thin layer of electrically charged particles above the surface). What Data it will collect on the Moon’s surface?

Vikram and the rover will be able to collect data for few earth days, then they will go dark for 14 days because then temperature drops to 160 degrees below zero Celsius. The Orbitor will spend a year gathering data about the moon. The objective is to fill in the gaps of India’s previous mission Chandrayaan one which was returned back to earth in August 2009.

The Chandrayaan 2 has eight measuring instruments on the board. Their function is to investigate the Moon’s thin atmosphere. And to show which minerals and chemicals make up its surface. For the first time, a special Radar will be used to determine the location and the quantity of frozen water. India’s mission, is the first to bring this type of instruments to the moon.
