    Claxton Bay Girl Dies After Falling From Down Staircase

    On Tuesday afternoon, a 16-year-old girl died after tumbling down a stairwell. 

    Alliyah Kandice Alexander, of Claxton Bay, died at the Couva district health facility, according to police.

    Police are also looking into accusations that she was hit with a belt by a close male relative after she collapsed.

    Couva West Secondary School was her alma mater.

    The 36-year-old relative, who is a member of the Defence Force, has been helping with the investigation. 

    According to the police report, the teen was hit with a belt before falling down a flight of stairs. 

    Alexander was unconscious when she arrived at the hospital and died while being treated. 

    As the male relative exited the health institution, relatives waiting outside attempted to attack him. Police apprehended him. 

    At around 4.10 p.m., 

    A 36-year-old relative, a member of the Trinidad and Tobago Defence Force, took the youngster, named Alliyah Kandice Alexander, to the health facility. 

    The Couva West Secondary School student was at his Rig Road, Claxton Bay, house when he warned her about her behaviour, according to a relative.
