Multiple Pictures of money thrown on the streets, are becoming viral on social media. Viral pictures show the thousand of currency Bills (Money bundles) thrown on the streets. People who are sharing these pictures are claiming that these pictures are from Italy because people are getting hopeless due to Coronavirus and throwing away their money on the streets.

Social media users claim “Due to Coronavirus, People in Italy became so desperate that they are throwing away their money on the streets after realising that the money is helpless for them against Coronavirus and the death.” See the tweets, below.

Social media is storming with these pictures and with similar claims. Even some YouTube channels published the videos of money thrown on the streets claiming it happened in Italy.

Fact Check: Did Italian People throw their money on the streets?

Fact Check: These viral pictures of the money on the streets, are not from Italy but from Venezuela. The economic collapse in Venezuela that began in 2013, brew of unfavorable economic conditions has spawned massive hyperinflation which has greatly devalued Venezuela’s currency.

These picture belongs to venezuela’s city Caracas, last year march 2019, when Venezuela’s currency lost its value after a political turmoil and sanctions and Venezuela’s banks had to replace the old currency bills with new one.

People were storing the bundles of currency in their homes in order to evade taxes. So they had to throw the old currency (Black money) on the streets.

Now we move to other points which rejects the claims of social media users about throwing money on the streets in Italy.

First thing is that the currency shown in the viral pictures is not Euro. As we all know that Italy uses the Euro as its official currency. We dug more into the viral pictures and After running a reverse image search on Google we found that the pictures were uploaded on several websites on March 16, 2019, and on many other dates around that.
