John McAfee’s (18 September 1945 – 23 June 2021) British-American computer programmer, businessman, and 2016 and 2020 presidential candidate. He created McAfee Associates in 1987 to sell the first commercial anti-virus software. In 1994, he quit and sold his firm shares. In later years, McAfee became the company’s most vocal opponent, advising people to uninstall its anti-virus software. He disputed the company’s continued use of his name in branding, despite a short-lived Intel-led rebranding effort.
In 2007–2008, McAfee’s fortunes fell. After leaving McAfee Associates, he launched Tribal Voice, QuorumEx, and Future Tense Central, among others, and held executive positions at Everykey, MGT Capital Investments, and Luxcore.
