Sudden power breakdown in all Pakistan. Major blackout in all major cities of Pakistan

There are dozens of reports of sudden blackout in the whole of Pakistan due to power breakdown. On Saturday night after 11:50 pm on January 9, 2021, Many people on social media are sharing the reports of Electricity shutdown from all major cities including Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Lahore, Karachi, Chakwal, Multan and many others.

Following cities are confirmed so far:

  • Lahore
  • Multan
  • Gujranwala
  • Sialkot
  • Sahiwal
  • Chakwal
  • Quetta
  • Abbotabad
  • Sargodha
  • Peshawar
  • Muzaffarabad
  • Rahim Yar Khan

80% areas of the country are affected by the outage as per sources.

Power breakdown in whole Pakistan

The reason for this sudden power breakdown in the whole of Pakistan has been not determined yet. However, the office of Deputy Commissioner Islamabad said in a tweet that there is no need for panic on power breakdown in Islamabad and they are getting information from IESCO.

“Power breakdown in the city. No need to panic. We are on duty. Will update after getting info from IESCO. The Deputy Commissioner’s office said in a statement.

Later on in a follow up statement, The Deputy commissioner’s office said: “NTDC system tripped. It will take sometime before everything gets back to normal. #blackout #electricity.”

Details of Electricity Breakdown in Pakistan

Multiple cities of the country are hit by massive power outage caused by fault in main transmission lines.

Karachi, Lahore, Islamabad, Peshawar, Rawalpindi and other cities have been surrounded by darkness due to the electricity failure.

Karachi’s Korangi, Defence, Garden, Clifton, Gulistan-e-Jauhar, Gulshan-e-Iqbal, MA Jinnah Road, II Chundrigar Road, Liaquatabad, and FB Area are facing blackout. 

As the outage hit the cities, federal information minister Shibli Faraz said that there is technical “fault in NTDC system. System is being restored”

A senior journalist, Faseeh Mangi, said that some 500KV lines in NTDC Network have tripped.
