WHO IS TRAVIS(CHIMPANZEE)?
As an animal actor, Travis appeared in many TV shows and commercials, including spots for Pepsi and shows like The Maury Povich Show and The Man Show. Travis lived from October 21, 1995, until February 16, 2009.
Travis was a male common chimpanzee (Pan troglodytes). A police officer shot and killed Travis on February 16, 2009, after he attacked and mauled his owner’s friend in Stamford, Connecticut. He blinded her, cut off several parts of her body, and slashed her face. The story spread across the world.
TRAVIS(CHIMPANZEE) ATTACK:
At age 14, Travis assaulted Charla Nash, the friend of the woman who “owned” the chimpanzee Travis. Sandra Herold, his owner, slashed him mercilessly with a knife and a fist before calling the police. They killed Travis as soon as they got at her Connecticut house.
When St. James Davis and his wife LaDona Davis married in the 1970s, they had a chimpanzee instead of a baby. Saint James returned from South Africa in 1967 with Moe, the chimp, and meant to keep him for a few years, but he became part of their family and lived for 30 years.
After Moe bit a cop in 1998 and a woman the following year, he was taken from St James and put up for adoption at Animal Haven Ranch.
The pious couple went to his 39th birthday party on March 3, 2005.
