What Are Call Bets in Roulette?

What Are Call Bets in Roulette?

Call bets are used in roulette as a special type of wager, also called French bets. The players get to “call” on their bets instead of them placing the chips on the table.

Casino games are played worldwide, and you can play online roulette in Australia with thousands of other players. Plus, tips, tricks, and how to play each game.

    Game Variations

The American, European, and French roulette varies in the pocket and number sequence on the table. Generally, the rules in French and European roulette are quite the same. But European roulette has 37 pockets with one zero-pocket, and American roulette has 38 pockets with 36 numbered pockets and two zero-pockets.

The game variations, such as in American roulette having two zero-pockets, give the casino the built-in advantage of 5.26% and less on the players. For European roulette, having 1 zero-pocket only gives the casino house 1 chance out of 37 to win, which can decrease their profit by 2.70%.

Difference Between Call Bets and Announced Bets

Call bets and announced are similar terms but are used differently in other parts of the world. On land-based casinos, you usually announce your call bet and won’t need to place the chips on the table since there’s a croupier who will do that for you. You can make announced bets as long as the croupier hasn’t announced “No more bets.”

Although in the UK, it’s illegal to announce your call bets for such practice means you’re betting on credit.

    Neighbours of Zero

Neighbours of Zero is the English translation of Les Voisins du Zéro, which is used in European roulette since American roulette has a different number sequence. It consists of 17 numbers between 22 and 25 with a number sequence of 22, 18, 29, 7, 28, 12, 35, 3, 26, 0, 32, 15, 19, 4, 21, 2, and 25.

This call bet lets you place nine chips on several splits. You can place the five chips on the splits of the following:

    • 4-7
    • 12-15
    • 18-21
    • 19-22
    • 32-35

The two chips can be placed as a split bet on the numbers 0, 2, and 3. Meanwhile, the other two are on the numbers 25, 26, 28, and 29 as a corner bet.

    Zero Game

Zero Game is a type of call bet that originated in Germany. It can only let you cover seven numbers, which are located nearest to the single zero-pocket by the wheel. The numbers included are 32, 15, 26, 12, 35, and 3, and you can also include the zero itself.

In the Neighbours of Zero, you can cover all the numbers, but in the Zero game, you can only place four chips for betting. One chip can be used as a split bet for numbers 0-3 and another chip as a split bet between 12-15. For the remaining two chips, one chip can be placed on the 26 for a straight-up bet and the other as a split bet between 32-35.
