The Chinese company has developed a technology within the ‘Own My Voice’ project so that people with speech disorders can use their own voices thanks to Text-To- Speech technology.

Xiaomi is working on a solution that will assist those with speech difficulties.

Xiaomi is one of the world’s leading technology companies, and its most recent application is Text-To-Speech technology, which allows users with speech impairments to generate a unique and individualised voice.

With these advancements, Xiaomi now allows users to communicate using their own voices. Many of these people want to be able to use their own voices, and in order to do so, the “Own My Voice” project team was formed. To develop the most relevant and individualised voice for the receivers, 200 Xiaomi volunteers “donated their voices,” and the features of the volunteers’ voices were matched with those of the recipients using the vocal fingerprint algorithm.

After the voice has been chosen and privacy concerns have been addressed, an acoustic modification is performed to create a completely new and unique sound. After that, Text To Speech Artificial Intelligence provides the voice with a natural intonation and rhythm that is as close to that of a human as possible.

This project combines the most modern algorithms with Xiaomi’s voice technology to ensure the authenticity of the synthesised voice while also introducing a new concept of tailored synthesis for users with speech impairments. To accomplish all of this, Xiaomi assembled a team of voice technology experts who have published a total of 37 studies on the subject in a variety of prestigious conferences since 2017.

According to Zhu Xi, one of the project’s leaders, they seek to satisfy the demands of “minority groups at an early stage” so that “the benefits of emerging technologies are available to users with specific needs.” At this time, their plans for the future are to continue obtaining feedback from voice recipients and to investigate the feasibility of this project on a much larger scale, as well as to continue to meet people’s demands through technical innovation.
