The New York Post says that Lt. Alison Russo-Elling, a dedicated veteran with the New York City Fire Department’s Bureau of Emergency Medical Services, was stabbed more than a dozen times while on duty at 2:20 p.m. on 20th Avenue and 41st Street.
Lt. Alison Russo-Elling, 61, worked for New York City’s Emergency Medical Service for almost 25 years. During that time, she got to know risk very well.
Responding by ambulance to a constant stream of 911 calls, her public service ranged from racing to Ground Zero on September 11, 2001, to working exhausting tours during the peak of the coronavirus pandemic in the spring of 2020, when she and her colleagues risked getting sick while taking thousands of New Yorkers a day to hospitals.
Lieutenant Russo-Elling had been a first responder for almost 25 hard years. She was nearing the end of her career in a quiet part of Astoria, Queens, and would be able to retire at age 62.

CBS News says that after the attack, the attacker was chased by someone who had seen the horrible episode. After the attack, the person who did it is said to have gone home and locked himself in his apartment.
Police told CBS News that the hostage-negotiation team got the 34-year-old suspect to come out of his apartment on the third floor, where he was then arrested. Since the attack is still being looked into, officials haven’t said who did it yet.
