Australian Government has detained World Top tennis player Novak Djokovic for nearly a week. Furthermore, his visa may be canceled due to his violation of covid guidelines. On Monday, Novak Djokovic won his first court hearing against the ministry of immigration. The Australian Federal Court denied the decision of the Commonwealth to cancel Novak’s visa. Moreover, the court ended the five-day-detention.
Judge Anthony Kelly ordered that Novak Djokovic be released within 20 minutes from the immigration detention. He called his detention unreasonable.
However, the minister for immigration, Alex Hawke, has the authority to re-cancel his visa. His authority transcends that of the Federal Court. Sources say that the minister is considering the re-cancellation of Novak’s visa.
Remarks of His Parents and Fans
Novak Djokovic won his appeal. While his fans, incited by false information, gathered around the immigration hotel where Djokovic was staying. Furthermore, they raised slogans, “Free Nole”.
While his parents have called the actions of the Ministry harassing and torturing. His outspoken father said,
His mother said that Australia has subjected him to torture and harassment.
Surprisingly, no one has made any remark as to his covid positive test. He tested positive for covid on December 16, 2021. Australia has the most strict guidelines about covid in the world. On the contrary, however, Djokovic has been violating these strict rules ever since.
After winning his court appeal, he started preparing for the Australian Open, which starts on January 17. However, his teammates didn’t greet him.
Reaction of Novak Kyrgios:
Kyrgios said that he felt embarrassed, after seeing what they did to Djokovic,
Sir Kerry Burke on the re-cancelation of Novak’s Visa
Sir Kerry Burke, former Immigration minister for Newzealand believes Alex Hawke should re-cancel his visa. Since he violated the guidelines and put lives at risk.
In a letter, Burke wrote: “If the law requires everybody entering Australia to have two COVID-19 vaccinations, with appropriate time separation between the first and the second and, if Djokovic cannot meet this test, then his attempt to stay in Australia must fail.
That will be Minister Hawke’s call and it should be made. “I understand Tennis Australia’s desire to have this superstar playing in Melbourne, but the absurdity of every spectator needing to be double-vaccinated in order to watch a non-vaccinated player perform is insulting to millions who followed the rules through trying times and would make your great country a laughing stock. “Minister Hawke should cancel the visa. His authority is clear.”
