JChandra Brown was a happy, vivacious girl, according to her mother, Sue Bryan. The 16-year-old moved to Spanish Fork, Utah, with her mother and stepfather to be closer to her brother Dustin Lewis and his family.

Her mother noticed Brown wasn’t herself over time. She seemed sad and agitated, she said. Sue told detectives, “I sensed she was upset and having issues.” Her mother took her to a doctor in Idaho for depression, who prescribed antidepressants. Her mother soon realized that Brown didn’t like moving to Utah. Buddies said she regularly reminisced about Idaho and missed her friends. Grace Jackson, Brown’s pal, told police she cut herself.

Tyerell called the police first. He returned to “make sure Jchandra was dead,” said Sgt. Josh Chappell. Utah County Sheriff’s Office arrested him. Tyerell waited 5 hours for Brown. He told authorities he picked up Brown from work and filmed her suicide. He claimed he and Brown agreed to kill each other.

The note said to examine the phone and mentioned Brown's lifelong enmity.

Tyerell was unwell, but officials were helpless. Utah had no assisted suicide law in 2017, thus he wasn’t arrested. Evidence arose. Since January 2017, Brown and Tyerell texted about his suicide. Texts intensified before the catastrophe. The most incriminating evidence was a text message Tyerell reportedly sent 17 days before the accident. Stop, said this friend. Tyrell remarked, “They must die. Awesome. She’s helped. Assassination! Oath. Several weeks.” Tyerell texted, “Can I mutilate your body and remove your head?”

5 days after authorities recovered Brown’s body, Tyerell was charged with reckless endangerment, desecration, and murder.
